The Role

The Levels School is an independent specialist day school offering high quality education and exemplary pastoral care to students with a range of complex, specific learning differences that may include speech, language, and communication needs.  Our teaching and learning provision would also meet the needs of individuals presenting with a similar learning profile to those with dyslexia and other Speech and Language Communication difficulties. Individuals with these differences often have difficulties with working memory, executive function, and speed of processing. In our experience these learners can often suffer with anxiety and have a low self-concept so we are also able to support vulnerable learners that suffer with fatigue or who may have been out of school due to anxiety

Main Responsibilities

This role will be working with students in internal and public exams, by providing the access arrangements that they are entitled to. This includes interchangeable duties as a reader, scribe, language modifier, prompt, and invigilator.

It is a requirement of the role to be available for annual mock exams, in November 2024 and March 2025, and to have good availability from 13 May to 17 June 2025 for public exams (mornings and afternoons Mon-Fri; no exams in the week 26-30 May). There may be requests to work with students on an ad hoc basis in between these times, to practise their exams skills. Ideally, we’ll appoint in September and October, then you’ll have the opportunity to complete training, develop a working relationship with the current Y11 students, and feel a part of the school community over the months preceding the mocks and the summer series.

The ability to converse at ease with students and communicate in accurate spoken and written English is essential to the role.

Our students have asked that their scribes are

  •  Patient, friendly and approachable
  •  Respectful of their abilities
  •  Understanding about the stresses of exams

Comments from our current scribes:

“I find the students to be very focussed, easy to work with and what particularly impresses me is how mutually supportive they are to each other”

“Being a scribe at TLS is a real pleasure and the results are always rewarding”

“From the nervousness at the beginning to the sense of accomplishment they feel at the end and everything else in between. It’s great to be a part of it!”

We can offer:

  • Staff with a vision of excellence for the future
  • Children who love learning and want to achieve
  • A well-resourced and stimulating environment
  • A strong emphasis on teamwork

The role of Exams Scribe is offered on a zero hours contact. We are looking to appoint flexible, adaptable and dedicated individuals. Experience in working with individuals with SpLD and some SEMH difficulties would be beneficial but not essential. Prior experience working as a scribe and language modifier certification are desired but not required.

Closing date for applications: ongoing.

Please email humanresources@thelevelsschool.co.uk or exams@thelevelsschool.co.uk for the job description or for more information.

We’ll be holding an information session and tour of the school at the beginning of September. We’d be delighted to welcome you then so you can find out some more about the role and our school. Please email exams@thelevelsschool.co.uk to register your interest.

Please note, we reserve the right to close the vacancy early should we receive a suitable number of applications. The Levels School is an equal opportunity employer. We support difference, celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all.
