The Role
Glenalmond is seeking a full time Teacher of Learning Support for September 2025.
Key Function
To lead and manage the department with overall responsibility for the delivery of Learning Support within the College.
Main Responsibilities
The Role
To teach an academic timetable as stipulated by the Head of Department
To monitor pupil attendance and academic performance
To ensure all pupils are motivated and are given opportunities to develop their creative talents in a positive, innovative and effective working environment
A willingness to be committed to a boarding school ethos; the successful applicant will be expected to take a tutor group and to assist with evening duties in a boarding house, normally one evening per week.
To participate fully in the culture of the school which will include pastoral duties, boarding house duties, form tutor duties, extra-curricular responsibilities and other school duties. This includes Saturday afternoon extra-curricular responsibilities.

Specific Duties
to support the implementation of the College SEND strategy and policy;
To prepare advice and guidance to teachers on how to support pupils with SEND.
to maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of JCQ/SQA examination regulations;
To promote the subject within and outside the College;
To monitor pupil performance and achievement;
To perform any other reasonable duties as directed by the Warden or Deputy Warden.
Teaching and Other Responsibilities
Maintain departmental engagement with Teaching and Learning initiatives and with external training; work directly with the Head of Department to develop academic provision and professional development;
Engage fully in continuous professional development.
Undertake other duties, i.e. supervised study and cover, take a tutor group, carry out boarding duties one evening per week and on occasion take a Saturday night duty to cover an activity.
Contribute to the extra-curricular life of the school.
Champion a system of universal support for LS pupils in the school.
Pupil Management
Provide support for individuals or groups of pupils as required; support classroom teachers in dealing with specific pupil issues;
Communication
Internal
Act as champion for the department within the school in communications with SLT, colleagues, pupils and parents;
Attend a timetabled Department meeting of at least one per fortnight in which the staff discuss and contribute to planning, progress and development of the department;
Communicate effectively with Housestaff, tutors and other academic staff on specific pupil issues;
External
Communicate with parents on all relevant pupil matters;
Develop links with other departments and external organisations that support LS.

The Ideal Candidate
Education/Training
Proven record of working as a teacher of students with SpLDs;
GTCS registration or eligibility to register
A degree level qualification with previous experience in SEND
To be aware of legislation changes and inspection requirement/policies
Experience
Experience in supporting children with executive functions deficits, ADHD and how to support students to develop executive skills
Confidence to teach a variety of GCSE / A level subjects – specialisms in subjects are not essential
Have up-to-date experience of administering and interpreting a wide range of psychometric testing [including those used for screening].
Proven track record of raising standards.
Experience of teaching across the age range 11 to 18 years.
Knowledge
Full up to date working knowledge of JCQ/SQA examination regulations.
Be familiar with the JCQ Access Arrangements Online
Have full knowledge of the 'normal way of working' practices within a centre and all that this entails
Have up-to-date knowledge of current SpLD theory and practice
Strong subject knowledge of students with SEND and their needs.
Ability to teach to all levels and abilities.
Knowledge of best practice for learning and interventions for students with SEND.
