Remuneration and benefits

The successful candidate will be working in a quality, up to date state of the art science block with was built in 2015. Daughters of staff who attend the school will be eligible for a 30% remission on school fees after one year’s service. This position is a term time, part time permanent role.
22.5 hours per week.
Main Responsibilities
The science technician will support the biology, chemistry and physics departments and be responsible for the following:
● Prepare and set out equipment and reagents for classes for science lessons
● Maintain and repair equipment and lab apparatus
● Constructing and modifying apparatus
● Trial new experiments
● Give technical help to pupils in class or doing projects
● Supervision of Advanced Higher pupils carrying out practical work, where safe to do
so
● Remote supervision of ad hoc assessments in the project room
● Order and maintain stock of consumables and chemicals. This includes items from
shops, e.g. butcher, Dobbies
● Manage budgets
● Maintain plants
● Technical assistance with Open Mornings, Activities, any extra curricular science
● Accompany school trips e.g. fieldwork, activities
● Attend Health and Safety Meetings
Health and Safety
● Ensure that all chemicals and hazardous substances are stored and disposed of safely
in accordance with COSHH regulations and school policy.
● Arrange/ carry out cyclical safety checks of equipment as appropriate.
● Assist with annual audit of science risk assessments.
Other duties
● Collate annual school stationery orders
● Participate in the wider school community by attending and helping with supervision
at Carol Service, St Margaret’s Day Service, Sports Day, Speech Day
● Attend staff meetings and appropriate in-service training
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be sympathetic to the values of our all through independent girls school with a proactive and can do attitude along with having a flexible and adaptive approach to tackle challenges with a positive mindset.
Desirable:
If not already achieved, Level 3 Microbiology and Leakage Testing of Radioisotopes
training will be undertaken.
