The Role

The Edinburgh Academy is a dynamic and inclusive learning environment where we empower our students to succeed and grow. We are dedicated to fostering a culture of curiosity, innovation, and collaboration, and we recognise that reliable technology plays a crucial role in our daily operations. We are looking for an IT Technician who shares our commitment to education and wants to support both staff and pupils in achieving their best.

As an IT Technician, you will be the go-to person for all technical support within the school. You will play a key role in maintaining our IT infrastructure, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring that our pupils and staff have access to the resources they need to learn and teach effectively. This role is perfect for someone who is technically skilled, enjoys problem-solving, and is motivated to work in an educational environment.

Main Responsibilities

This is a varied role, with no two days the same.  A lot can happen in the average day at school!  Your main tasks will include the following:

  • Provide first-line technical support to staff and pupils, including troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software and network issues.
  • Set up, configure, and maintain computers, printers, and other technology equipment across campus.
  • Assist with managing user accounts, permissions, and access control for various systems and applications.
  • Support teachers with classroom technology, including interactive whiteboards, projectors, and other AV equipment.
  • Monitor and manage helpdesk tickets, ensuring timely resolution of issues and communication with users.
  • Assist the MIS Manager in the maintenance, updating, and troubleshooting of the school's Management Information Systems (MIS), ensuring accurate and secure data management.
  • Provide support for data administration tasks, including report generation, data imports/exports, and resolving data-related issues to ensure seamless school operations.
  • Document and update technical processes and troubleshooting steps for common issues.
  • Maintain an inventory of IT equipment and coordinate with vendors for repairs or replacements.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on projects to improve and upgrade school technology systems.

This is not an exhaustive list of tasks associated with the role and is intended to give you a sense of your key areas of responsibility.  You will be one of three first-line technicians who act as the 'go-to' people for staff and pupils alike.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential:

  • Strong knowledge of Windows and Mac operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and other standard software.
  • Familiarity with network troubleshooting, Wi-Fi management, and general network security practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users.
  • Patience, a positive attitude, and a commitment to giving excellent customer service.

Desirable:

  • Proven experience in IT support or a similar role; experience in an educational environment is a plus.
  • Technical or network certifications

If you’re a tech-savvy individual passionate about education and ready to make a difference, we’d love to hear from you!

We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.  Candidates must have the right to work in the UK via other means.
