This position is part-time permanent; 0.8 FTE
St Margaret’s School operates its own salary scale which is above the national pay scale. Subject to satisfying eligibility criteria, the successful applicant will be automatically enrolled into the Scottish Teachers’ Superannuation Scheme, but will have the right to opt out. Daughters of staff who attend the school will be eligible for a 50% remission on school fees (on a pro-rata basis). St Margaret’s has an Employee Assistance Programme which offers free and confidential advice on both work and personal issues.
The Role
We are seeking a suitably qualified and enthusiastic primary teacher to join our dynamic junior school team. Candidates should be GTCS registered or eligible for registration.
Our junior school is a nurturing, vibrant and well-resourced learning environment where pupils are supported and encouraged to do their best and discover their love of learning. There is one junior school class in each year group.
A strong emphasis is placed on developing firm foundations in literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing and our curriculum areas are that of Curriculum for Excellence. From 1 Junior pupils are fortunate to have weekly specialist teaching in PE, music, drama and French. In the upper stages of junior school, art and design is added as a specialist subject and in 7 Junior science and Latin are also taught by senior teachers, in preparation for the pupils’ transition into senior school. A wide range of extra-curricular activities, run by both staff and senior pupils, are on offer to support and complement our curriculum.
Small class sizes and the combined input of class teachers, specialist teachers and classroom assistants ensure that girls are supported, encouraged and challenged to make the most of all of their learning opportunities. There is a well-developed programme of outdoor learning across the junior school and colleagues collaborate regularly to provide these activities. We also embrace opportunities to welcome visitors into school to enhance learning, as well as arranging off site visits to areas of specific curriculum interest.
In the junior school we value the all-through nature of St Margaret’s and enjoy building relationships with our nursery and senior school pupils. There are numerous opportunities for pupils to meet and work together on various pupil committees to support learning and teaching and the school’s charitable activities in school.
Main Responsibilities
- To prepare and deliver lessons using a range of suitable teaching approaches, assessment and evaluation methods, using Curriculum for Excellence as a guide. To provide a stimulating learning environment for pupils.
- To organise and co-ordinate such trips, visits and extra-curricular activities as may add enrichment to the day-to-day teaching for their pupils.
- To maintain pupils' records and write reports.
- To develop good working relationships with parents and attend parents’ evenings.
- To attend whole school and junior school staff meetings; to work with all junior school staff to develop and implement teaching and learning strategies in line with school policy.
- To participate in the school’s professional learning programme.
- To take part in school open days.
- To cover for colleagues as required.
- To contribute to the positive ethos and extra-curricular life of St Margaret’s School.
